Marla Dakin, LCSW
Founder & Clinical Director, Farmington Valley Counseling Center
You don’t have to do this alone.
If you’re a parent… you want to help your child, but it feels like no matter what you do, you just can’t break through. Their anxiety, emotions, and stress at home are only increasing.
It’s impacting everything—school, friendships, and family dynamics. You’ve tried everything you can think of, but nothing seems to work.
If you’re a teen or young adult… you’re stressed and exhausted from carrying so much on your own. Anxiety has you over-thinking every decision, keeping you stuck in your head.
Maybe you’ve started avoiding school or activities, or you’re caught in a cycle of comparing yourself to everyone else. You might feel disconnected from friends or family, or just “off” and unsure how to feel like yourself again. That silence—the part you keep inside—is often the hardest part.
I understand how painful and isolating this can feel, whether you’re a parent watching your child suffer or a young person trying to find your footing. You don’t have to figure it out alone.
Finding the right help doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
With so many therapists and options out there, it can be hard to know where to start or who to trust. That’s where I come in.
In addition to being the Founder and Clinical Director of Farmington Valley Counseling Center, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified School Social Worker with over 25 years of experience supporting children, teens, and families through life’s most challenging moments.
My focus is on helping you and your child manage anxiety, foster emotional resilience, and find hope for the future.
My approach
I use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness to teach practical strategies clients can apply immediately and carry with them for years to come.
My work centers on helping kids, parents, and families:
Recognize and express emotions
Navigate anxiety and stress
Build stronger relationships
Create meaningful goals for the future
As a mom of two young adults myself, I understand these challenges—not just as a therapist, but as a parent who’s been in the trenches. I know what it’s like, and I’m here to support you and your family in restoring peace in your home… and your heart.
I support…
Children with Anxiety and Social Challenges… and their Parents!
I support children who are struggling with worries, separation anxiety, or friendship difficulties to better understand their feelings and learn strategies that help them feel calmer and more confident.
Teens and Young Adults Facing Stress, Depression, and Anxiety
I support teens and young adults who are overwhelmed by academic stress, relationships, or uncertainty about the future. In therapy, we focus on developing coping skills, building resilience, and creating meaningful goals so they can feel more grounded, connected, and hopeful.
Parents Navigating the Ups and Downs of Family Life
I support parents who feel exhausted, isolated, or unsure how to respond to their child’s needs. Together, we explore practical strategies for parenting through anxiety, stress, and behavioral challenges—while also helping you find your own sense of balance and peace.
Moms of Anxious Teens Through Coaching
For moms who want additional support, I also offer coaching, workshops, and online programs through marladakin.com. These programs are designed to empower moms to feel confident, capable, and in control while navigating anxiety in their kids (at any age).
